Glossary of Ingredients
Arnica: (Arnica Montana) has been used for medicinal purposes since the 1500s and is still popular today. There are over 100 drug products made from this plant. The active components in Arnica are sesquiterpene lactones, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and pain reduction properties. Arnica also contains thymol (an essential oil), flavonoids, inulin, carotenoids and tannins that stimulate circulation.
Arnica works by stimulating the activity of white blood cells that perform much of the digestion of congested blood, and thereby dispersing trapped fluids from bruised tissue, joint and muscle. Arnica has also been shown to improve the health and conductivity of certain nerves.
Cetyl Alcohol: is a fatty alcohol derived from natural oils, coconut and palm oil. It is used as an emulsion stabilizer and a viscosity-increasing agent.
Chamomile Oil: is derived from the chamomile flower. This oil is renowned for its treatment of skin disorders and inflammations. Chamomile is especially good for dry/sensitive skin because of its calmative and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to reduce redness and stimulate blood circulation and new cell growth, enhancing overall texture and appearance of the skin.
Cucumber Extract: (derive from the cucumber fruit). It is a natural astringent which helps minimize pore size with a very cooling and soothing effect on the skin. Cucumber contains a remarkable amount of phytosterols . Studies indicate that phytosterls help the skin strengthen its lipid barrier, restoring proper moisture balance, smoothing the skin’s surface and improving skin elasticity. Phytosterls are also known for their ability to nourish and stimulate the skin cells to encourage
regeneration of healthy skin cells.
Lavender: is a common essential oil that is used in Aromatherapy products. It is widely known for its ability to help counteract stress, fatigue and depression. It is also known as an excellent aid in the relief of various types of pains including those caused by sore and tense muscles, muscular aches, rheumatism, sprains, backaches and joint pain. Studies have showed Lavender Oil helps induce sleep, that has made it a common recommendation for an alternative treatment of insomnia. This oil also has the properties of acting as a diuretic, and combating fluid retention.
Glycerin: (derived from natural oils). It is a natural humectant that attracts and retains the moisture, from the air by absorption. This allows for accelerated hydration of the epidermis when applied to the skin.
Glyceryl Stearate: is a natural compound derived from glycerin and stearic acid, it functions as a skin conditioning agent-emollient, also acting as a surfactant-emulsifying agent.
Jojoba Oil: is a light, fine oil easily absorbed by the skin, deriving from the jojoba bean. This precious oil moisturizes and protects, without leaving any oily residue on the skin. Jojoba oil is especially good for dry, thin skin, restoring a firmer texture by helping to retain moisture.
Menthol: is a crystallized form of peppermint, derived from peppermint leaves. It soothes and deodorizes the skin while helping to protect against drying and chapping. Menthol is an analgesic with antipruritic and antispasmodic qualities that can help relieve itching and muscle cramps.
Phenoxyethanol: functions as a disinfectant, antiseptic or antibiotic and is primarily used as a preservative in cosmetics and beauty products.
Potassium Sorbate: is used as a preservative ingredient in many food and cosmetic products. It inhibits microbial growth, thereby increasing the shelf life of food and cosmetic items.
Peppermint Oil: is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, antiseptic, an astringent and anti-spasmodic. Peppermint oil helps to stimulate circulation and promote new cell growth. When inhaled, it can soothe minor stomach discomfort, and improve concentration and mental alertness.
Sodium Citrate: is a salt of Citric Acid that is commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products to adjust the pH. Citrate, in the form of citric acid, is also found in citric fruits and juices.
Stearic Acid: is a natural fatty acid derived from coconut and palm oil. Used as an emulsifying agent.
Sweet Almond Oil: Derived from Jordan almonds, this light oil contains high amounts of amino acids, vitamin E and antioxidants. These essential ingredients help repair and regenerate new cells and destroy free radicals while providing proper nutrients for the skin to repair itself.
Tea Tree Oil: comes from the distillation of the leaves of the hardy tree native to Australia. It is a powerful immune system stimulant and has antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and pain relieving properties. The chemicals in tea tree oil may reduce allergic skin reactions.
Tocopherol: a natural source of vitamin E. This ingredient, due to its high concentration of vitamin E, helps the skin to regenerate and repair itself. Tocopherlol is used for dry skin, to help revive and
hydrate parched and damaged cells.
Water: acts as a carrier or solvent for other ingredients. Water retention is essential for normal healthy skin. Combining water with the other active ingredients aids in preventing dehydration of the skin.
